MTN To List Shares By Introduction, Says SEC

Image
The Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC), on Wednesday confirmed that it indeed received and approved an application to register shares of telecoms giant- MTN Nigeria last week. A statement by the commission quoted Acting Director General of the SEC, Ms. Mary Uduk as saying that “MTN sought to come to the market by way of an introduction and they wrote to the SEC last week requesting for approval to register its existing shares. That approval has now been granted”. MTN had on Tuesday announced the registration of 20.4bn ordinary shares by the SEC. The move by MTN, according to the SEC, “is a further indication of the determination… to work with companies that are interested in the capital market. “We believe that this will also encourage other service providers to come to the market,” the commission added. https://investdata.com.ng/2019/05/mtn-to-list-shares-by-introduction-says-sec/

PLANNING IS EVERYTHING

Image
This is shocking It is Ambrose Again. There are many instances where you have heard about top 5% of successful people. I am not talking about people who get favors from Government. But people who became financially independent through Conscious habit and effort. To buttress further, according to Earl, 100 men of 25 years of Age. The world is ahead of them and each has an equal opportunity as the rest. The question is, what would have happened to these 100 young men by the Time they are 65 years of age. In other words, let's take the hands of time into the future. Well, here is the statistics by the time they are 65years. 1 will be rich, 4 will be financially independent, 5 will be working,   54 will be dependent on others. Asking if you want to join the 5% is an unnecessary question because who does not want to. Frankly, if you want to become anything in life, you just need to focus on 8 hours a day for 5 years and you will be become an expert. If that is the c...

NEXIM NPL Ratio Hits 91%, CBN Delays N500bn Fund

Image
Indications at the weekend are that all may not be well at the Nigerian Export-Import Bank (NEXIM), following allegations of high-level fraud in the disbursement of loans by the former management team. Sources within NEXIM and Price Waterhouse Coopers (PwC), the audit firm, pointed to several violations of laid down procedures, as reflected in the bank’s unprecedented Non-Performing Loan (NPL) ratio at 91% of its total loan book. “That level of fraud within the system is perhaps why the CBN is yet to activate the N500bn Export Stimulation Fund set up to promote non-oil exports in Nigeria,” one of the sources lamented. The ESF was last year revamped, using the Anchor Borrowers’ Programme model, just as the CBN introduced a N50 billion direct intervention funding for NEXIM, which Godwin Emefiele, the apex bank told journalists was to further the country’s economic diversification efforts. It was also to develop sources of foreign exchange, especially in the agriculture value chain...

Image
Market Update for February 27 Stocks on the Nigerian Stock Exchange (NSE) closed lower at the midweek as negative sentiment extended into the second trading session on a high selling volume and declining money flow index. The index reveals the direction of smart money and institutional players at any given time. Trading opened on the downside in the morning, a situation that was sustained throughout; on day when umpire, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declared incumbent President Muhammadu Buhari of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) winner of the presidential poll. How AI, Machine Learning and Automation will Impact Business in 2018 and Beyond

Image
We are living in exciting and innovative times with futuristic technology literally at our fingertips. But for the longest time, small to medium sized businesses were not serviced by the latest tech trends enterprises have been able to benefit from. That is, until now. In this article, we’ll explore these technology trends and how they will impact business in 2018 and beyond. So, what kind of things can this ‘smart’ tech do? Just 4 months ago, an AI machine managed to complete a University level math exam 12 times faster than it normally takes the average human.  How? Through the art of machine learning; where computers learn and adapt through experience without explicitly being programmed. Furthermore, Facebook made headlines earlier this year when their chatbots created their own language. Some Fake News stories say that the engineer’s pulled the plug in a panic after they were getting too smart. However, the truth is that for Facebook’s purposes the chatbots needed to sti...

TAKE A BATH

Image
To "take a bath " on an investment means to suffer a very large loss. It is a slang for an investor whose shares value have declined substantially over a period of time. One may decide to take a bath on ones entire portfolio or one of the eggs 🥚 in ones basket to stop the loss/losses. Stock-specific news such as company's earnings missing the target of the analysts, unexpected profit warnings etc may result in an investor taking a significant loss. A prolonged bear market may also cause an investor to take a bath on his/her portfolio. Have you ever taken a bath in this market? Investdata Academy

The notes are held by FBN Finance Company B.V and will exercise its option to call the $300m notes. EXPECTED DIVIDEND YIELD (EDY)

Image
Basically there is a difference between expected or forward dividend yield and trailing dividend yield because when one invests in stocks, the past does not necessarily equal the future. Expected dividend yield measures next year's expected dividends as a percentage of a stock's current price, using the last year dividend payout whereas the trailing yield uses the present year dividend as there is no guesswork about trailing yield for the dividend is already out so one can know the yield. The expected or forward yield shows the annual percent return one can expect to earn from dividends if the company keeps up its payouts. To calculate expected dividend yield we use the formula:  EDY = forward annual dividend rate/stock's price * 100 For example, let us assume stock Y has a current price of #650.00 and a forward annual dividend rate of #24.00. Applying these values into the formula we have: EDY = 24/650 *100 = 3.7% Meaning, if one buys this stock now, one wo...

Sell-offs May Slowdown As Lower Prices Attract New Positioning

Image
Market Update for July 3, 2018 It was another horrible and volatile session on the Nigerian Stock Exchange Tuesday as the market gapped down on cautious trading with the March full-year results released so far failed to impact the market as a result of mixed performance recorded, especially given the modest revenue growth by consumer goods makers. The consumer goods are often well patronized by Nigerians, depending on their disposable income, thereby providing a good gauge of the health status of the nation’s manufacturing sector. It thereby confirms the prevailing narrative suggestive of a slowdown in the Federal Government’s economic recovery efforts as signaled by the Q1 GDP data, a situation that may likely worsen in the Q2 when the data is published by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS). This situation has further been reflected in the marginal increase in the recently released June PMI data. Consequently, the possibility of most corporate earnings beating expecta...

ASYMMETRIC VOLATILITY PHENOMENON

Image
The asymmetric volatility phenomenon is the observed tendency of equity market volatility to be higher in declining markets than in rising markets. Better still, asymmetric volatility is a situation in which the volatility of a security is higher when the market index is performing poorly than when it is performing well. Asymmetric volatility is a real phenomenon where market uptrends tend to be more gradual and downtrends tend to be sharper and steeper thereby becomes a cascading declines; the daily range in prices tends to be higher during downtrends than uptrends. There has been no consensus reached on the causes of asymmetric volatility, but factors such as leverage and panic(such as the recent equities market structure by NSE or The Exchange) are often attributed to it.
